WABANAKI ALLIANCE
The Wabanaki Alliance is an advocacy group that seeks to raise awareness about Native peoples in Maine and advocates for the sovereignty of Native tribes in Maine. The Alliance was formed in June 2020 between the Aroostook Micmac, Houlton Maliseet, Passamaquoddy Tribe, and Penobscot Nation.
Some of the issues facing native peoples in Maine mirror the issues faced by indigenous people nationally and globally. It is important to support and protect tribal sovereignty because this promotes and maintains survival of indigenous culture, livelihood, and community.
